Poinsettia sale attracts holiday crowds to Denmark

Denmark — A sea of holiday red, white and pink greeted shoppers at the Floral Plant Growers 20-acre greenhouse near Denmark on Sunday.

The Denmark Lions Club held its 41st annual Poinsettia sale.

Shoppers had over 100,000 plants to choose from in many different colors.

Club members say this is one of their largest yearly fundraisers.

The money raised goes to everything from student scholarships to buying groceries for families in need around the holidays.

"The biggest thing is to raise money to give back to the community," said Max Roth, member of the Denmark Lions Club. "The last 30 to 40 years we've actually given back $1.4 million - so we're pretty proud of that."

Each year the Denmark Lions Club gives about $60,000 to $70,000 back to the community through a variety of organizations. Roth says every month people come to the club for various different needs and that's why they're trying to help them out.

Event organizers say shoppers this year could choose from about 20 different types of Poinsettia plants.
